JOB PURPOSE

To assist the superintendent with directing the day to day operations of the crew. Provide a point of contact for the office administrative staff and project clients/owners/consultants as required. Adhere
to and enforce all company policies with fellow crew members.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety – Assisting the Superintendent

  • Implement, adhere to, and enforce West-Can Seal Coating Inc. safety program/policies and HSE manual
  • Contribute to the creation of a safe work environment with fellow crew members. You’re expected to lead the crew by example.
  • Aware, prevent and be alert to potential hazards and safety violations. Adhere to safety policies and procedures; ensure throughout the crew.
  • Understanding OHS and traffic laws
  • Maintain 100% Compliance in all required safety training and certificates.
  • Ensure all safety records, including Sign Logs, FLHA’s, Inspections, Safety
  • Meeting, etc. are being completed by the required parties and submitted daily to the Project Administrator
  • Work with superintendent to ensure required reset intervals are scheduled with crew and crew members.
  • Alert superintendent to any infractions

Administrative

  • Work with the superintendent to determine crew requirements as to equipment, material and deliverables, ensure that deficient areas are being addressed Work with Human Resources to address crew personnel requirements
  • Work with office personnel and superintendent to maintain accurate crew lists
  • Ensure company assets are being used appropriately (fuel cards, vehicles, cell phones, etc.)
  • Enforce company requirements in regards to required information, forms, receipts, safety documents are submitted by crew members on time to the Project Administrator
  • Address inter-personal concerns and escalate parties to appropriate superintendents when necessary
  • Keep a record of all meetings/discussions with project owners/clients/consultants and communicate any relevant discussion points to superintendents

Production

  • Assist with the supervision of crews
  • Lead, train and assist fellow team members
  • Ensure daily production is being recorded
  • Ensure Application rates are being met as per company and contract requirements
  • Any production records being kept by crew members (i.e. Distributor logs) are being filled out and submitted daily
  • Work alongside superintendent to ensure auxiliary tasks (pre-signing, construction notices, etc.) are being completed on schedule, as required.
  • Direct the work, in consultation with the superintendent
  • Ensure all personal are maintaining and cleaning all equipment and vehicles on a regular basis as needed
  • Work with the superintendent and mechanic to ensure equipment issues/repairs are being completed in a timely manner

Quality

  • Ensure work being performed is being done to required standards as per West-Can’s procedure and contract requirements
  • Ensure application rates and other performance/quality metrics are being met as per West- Can’s procedure and contract requirements
  • Stopping work that is deficient and work to correct the issues prior to restarting
  • Identify specific areas/completed work that may be deficient and requiring repair, communicating this with the Superintendent and the Project Administrator to ensure a record is kept
  • Facilitate and Co-ordinate material samples are collected and documented as required by contract or at the direction of the superintendent
  • Ensure all testing results are shared with appropriate parties and kept up-to-date

JOB RESULTS

  • Assist superintendent with productions, crew, training and paperwork. Submit paper work as required above. Ensure equipment is being maintained on a regular basis.
  • In short you will be counted on by the office, foreman, and crew. As a lead hand you will be responsible for all of the tasks above.

DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY

  • Work with the superintendent, direct the work of the crew, including start and end times, start locations, type of work to be performed
  • Primary point of contact for both crew and client/owner/consultant in the absence of the superintendent
  • Direct employees as to start/end times, proper operation of equipment, safe working practices/procedures
  • Purchase required site/project items up to $2500. Greater than to be approved by the superintendent

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTITUDES

  • Know all of the crew job roles and functions
  • You will be required to have strong knowledge of the tools and equipment required to complete jobs

The primary responsibility is that of administration with superintendent-based approvals.

DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety

  • Implement and adhere to West-Can Seal Coating Inc. safety program, policies and HSE manual.Contribute to the creation of a safe work environment.
  • Advise superintendent when employees are approaching required reset intervals according to hours of service.
  • Assist in incident and near miss investigations.
  • Ensure all safety paperwork is collected and submitted (meeting minutes, FLHA’s, inspections, signlogs etc.)

Administrative

  • Daily labour hour submittals and verification with drivers’ daily logs for all positions.
  • Collect and organize all paperwork from the crew members i.e. fuel, driver logs, packing slips, receipts,Gravel tickets, emulsion BOL, etc.
  • Submit crew paperwork to the office on a weekly basis.
  • Review cost codes and, with superintendent approval, submit for invoice payment against delivered items involving production: bills of lading, packing slips, scale tickets, etc.
  • Verify hotel list and room allocation and manage the appropriate distribution of employee to room availability.
  • Notification to office for all accommodation changes.
  • Coordinate on site facilities with office.
  • Coordinate fuel card assignment to crew members with superintendent and office direction.
  • Termination or transfer processes followed and communicated to relevant parties.
  • New hire processes with the direction of Human Resources.
  • Meeting minutes recorded and submitted for all meetings held with the crew.
  • Arrange for relevant permits as required and co-ordination of such with the office.
  • Ensure client/owner/customer receives all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Keep track of relevant job correspondence.
  • Communication and co-ordination with sub-contractor(s).

Production

  • Daily quantities, materials consumptions (in and out) and production quantities.
  • Application rates and daily production tracking with detailed description of work completed – to include station numbers, GPS data etc.
  • Material tracking through completion (orders, deliverables and consumption).
  • Reviews and approves daily submitted equipment hours.
  • Any discrepancies, errors or omissions in production data found are corrected and shared with the superintendent and office staff as required.
  • Co-ordinate auxiliary needs for production – i.e. pre-advertising signs.
  • Track all demurrage charges accordingly and correspond with the office as required.
  • Maintain and update construction schedule ensuring all those affected have been updated.

Quality

  • Identify specific areas/completed work, using stations/GPS, that may be deficient requiring repair, and communicate this with the superintendent.
  • Ensure material samples are collected and documented as required by contract or at the direction ofthe superintendent.
  • Ensure all testing results are shared with appropriate parties and kept up-to-date.

JOB RESULTS

  • Timely reporting of all relevant project information to ensure accurate and prompt invoicing.
  • Identifying infractions and conflicts with crew time against allowable time and log book regulations.
  • Well-kept records of all information relating to current and future projects and ability to speak togenerated reports to senior management as well as project owners/clients/consultants.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & ATTITUDE

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of GPS and measuring instruments and tools.
