Saskatchewan’s construction industry is expected to see continued growth through 2035, with residential construction leading the way, according to BuildForce Canada’s latest Construction and Maintenance Looking Forward forecast.
The forecast projects strong growth in new-home construction and residential renovations, with residential construction employment expected to rise by 23 per cent from 2025 to 2035. However, the outlook also highlights a significant workforce challenge. Saskatchewan’s construction industry could need as many as 13,500 workers by 2035 – including 4,100 additional workers to meet demand growth and approximately 9,400 workers expected to leave the industry through retirement. With an estimated 9,900 new entrants expected to join the workforce, BuildForce projects a potential shortfall of 3,600 construction workers.
The forecast reinforces the importance of developing the next generation of Saskatchewan’s construction workforce as the province prepares for continued investment and growth.
