The Government of Saskatchewan proclaimed Sept. 21 to 25 as Construction Week, recognizing the organizations and skilled construction workforce whose hard work strengthens the economy and builds the vital infrastructure Saskatchewan people rely on.
“Our construction sector plays a critical role in ensuring Saskatchewan continues to grow,” Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding said. “The industry creates thousands of jobs, supports businesses in every region of the province and delivers the infrastructure needed for communities to thrive. Construction Week is an opportunity to recognize the people behind that work who are dedicated to building a stronger Saskatchewan.”
In 2025, 47,700 people were employed in Saskatchewan’s construction industry. By August 2026, employment had increased by 12 per cent to 55,900, an increase of 6,100 jobs compared with August 2025. This growth reflects rising demand for skilled workers and the construction sector’s important role in supporting the province’s future.
The sector contributed $6.9 billion to the province’s real GDP in 2025. This represented 8.1 per cent of Saskatchewan’s total real GDP of $85.4 billion. Continued investment in construction helps ensure Saskatchewan has the infrastructure needed to support economic development, attract investment and protect communities.
