SHCA continues to receive feedback from many people who were impressed with our Infrastructure Summit and Trade Show held in Regina last December. We were lucky to host many interesting and unique presenters who gave us insights into areas that can and will significantly influence how we run our businesses.
Our upcoming issue of Think BIG features articles on two summit presentations that showcase how rapidly our industry is evolving and adopting new practices to protect workers on the job. Safety is essential in our industry. Without it, projects cannot move forward; no shortcut is worth risking injury or death. These two stories offer different ideas on enhancing safety measures that produce positive outcomes.
AI has become an important topic in our daily lives, making it timely for Brandon Pappas from SITECH Western Canada Solutions Ltd. to give a talk on “AI and Site Safety.” Pappas’ presentation was not only fascinating, but also informative on how AI can positively affect our industry by helping keep our workers safe. You will need to read the entire article to understand the major changes happening in heavy construction right now.
Last year’s summit also featured Jonathan Sherman, occupational health and safety consultant for Birchbark Safety Consulting, who presented “Lessons from the Construction of the Golden Gate Bridge.” Sherman’s talk provided a historical perspective on a major infrastructure project, highlighting how project managers found ways to keep workers safer, while also addressing unforeseen safety issues affecting community members once the project was completed.
These two presentations provided insights into how our industry is adopting new methods to keep our workers safe and offered hope that we can achieve a perfect safety record on future projects. Watch for these stories in the upcoming issue of Think BIG, which will arrive in your mailboxes and be available to read at saskheavy.ca later this month!
