Highways Minister Kim Gartner has highlighted the Meadow Lake, Grenfell and Wolseley areas, where various projects, when completed, will improve travel for motorists and help Saskatchewan’s export-based economy keep moving.
“These projects will contribute to a better provincial highway network for all who use it to access key services and travel to Saskatchewan’s wonderful tourism destinations, while supporting business and industry that move their goods and services,” Gartner said. “Please remember to watch out for work zones and drive to current highway conditions so everyone gets home safely.”
Some highlights of ongoing, completed and upcoming provincial highway projects include:
- Highway 304 Bridge near Meadow Lake – An estimated $1.7 million bridge replacement project began on-site work Aug. 4 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The existing bridge needs to be replaced because of spring flood damage.
- Highway 903 Waterhen River Bridge in Meadow Lake area – An estimated $5.9 million bridge project began June 4 and was recently completed. A new bridge was needed because the existing one was nearing the end of its service life.
- Trans-Canada Highway 1 Grenfell and Wolseley area – An estimated $2.4 million project will see seven culverts installed at various locations between Grenfell and Wolseley. The project began Aug. 17 and will be completed this fall. Traffic lanes on this twinned highway may be reduced during construction to safely accommodate the work.
